kishtwar, July 16: A Class 12 student died at District Hospital Kishtwar on Tuesday after the hospital authorities allegedly denied proper treatment to him, sparking strong protests.
As per the details available with "Early Times", 20-year-old Saqib Hussain Akhoon, son of Abdul Gani Akhoon, of Upper Changer, Marwah was passing through Tapal Market Kishtwar at around 9.30 am when the wall of the under construction plot collapsed and fell on him, as a result of which he received critical injuries.
As soon as the incident took place, the people and shopkeepers around the site of the incident immediately shifted Saqib to the District Hospital Kishtwar where he died after he was denied the proper treatment due to non-availability of a specialist doctor at the time of the emergency.
Speaking to "Early Times" Asif Ahanger who shifted Saqib Hussain to District Hospital Kishtwar said that they was surprised to see no response from the hospital authorities after they shifted him for the treatment in critical condition.
He said that the in charge of blood bank refused to issue the blood required for the injured student while he was battling for life, adding that after delay of nearly two hours, the cousin sister of the deceased donated her blood in exchange for the blood available in the blood bank, but till then it was already late and the patient collapsed. He said that only Dr. Suhail (NHM) doctor was available in emergency unit while no senior doctor turned up even after several hours.
Umar Mir and Burhan Mir, volunteers of local NGO Ababeel who also rushed to the hospital for providing helping hand to the injured youth told the "Early Times" that due to absence of an expert, the X-Ray conducted on him was blank and when they questioned the staff members, they refused to responde and instead advised them to visit private X-Ray clinic.
They said that the hospital authorities also failed to provide an ambulance for shifting the patient and added that CMO informed them that all the ambulances were outside district while one ambulance is being used to ferry the medicines.
They demanded immediate arrest of the CMO Kishtwar and action against Medical Superintendent District Hospital Kishtwar who is always found out of station on one or other pretext.
Meanwhile, as soon as people of Kishtwar along with the relatives of the youth heard about the death of Saqib, they immediately rushed to the hospital and held a strong protest against the CMO Kishtwar, hospital staff and the administration for their failure in saving lives of the people.
Senior police officials including SSP Kishtwar Shakti Pathak, ACR Kishtwar Dr. Amir, Dy. SP HQ Sunny Gupta, SHO P/S Kishtwar and others immediately rushed to the hospital and pacified the angry protestors and shifted the dead body to Marwah for burial. Following assurance from the police and administration, the people called off the protest.
SHO Kishtwar Ajaiz Wani also informed the angry protestors that police has arrested I/C Blood Bank Firdous Ahmed Babzada and requested them to cooperate.
The police also registered FIR No. 157/2019 U/S 304-A RPC against the land owner whose boundary wall knocked out the student and against the hospital staff including I/C Blood Bank for negligence of the duty that led to the death of the student.
