Early Times Report

KISHTWAR, July 16: Vikramaditya Singh, a Congress leader and grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh, has landed himself in trouble over his tweet on 13-7-1931 Kashmir killings, commonly referred to as martyrs day, by terming those killed as rapists, criminals and looters after Chief Judicial Magistrate Kishtwar directed SHO police station Kishtwar to investigate the matter.
As per the details available with "Early Times", Peoples Conference's district president Kishtwar Sajjad Ahmed Najjar through his counsel Advocate Sheikh Nasir Hussain filed a petition before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate claiming that the tweet of Vikramaditya Singh has hurt the sentiments of the Muslims.
Najjar argued that the day was remembered for the scarifies of the 22 people who laid down their lives for completing the "azaan" and added that state government has recognized the day by declaring it a state holiday. The complainant alleged that the tweet is aimed to create communal disharmony and to breach the peace among the different sections of the society.
He further told the court that Kishtwar district is communally sensitive and the tweet "seems to be well planned, malicious act to outrage the feelings of the Muslim community." He demanded that Singh be booked for the commission of the heinous offences for hurting the sentiments of a particular community.
After hearing the complainant and his counsel, CJM Kishtwar Sudhir Khajuria directed SHO Police Station Kishtwar to inquire the matter in terms of Section 156 (3) Cr.PC against Vikramaditya Singh, son of Dr. Karan Singh, a resident of Amar Mahal, Amphalla, Jammu.
"In the light of the law laid down by Hon'ble Supreme Court in Lalita Kumari Vs. Govt. of UP and others. 2014 (2) SCC 1, SHO P/S Kishtwar is directed to conduct preliminary inquiry to ascertain whether a cognizable offence is made out or not in the light of averments made in application. The preliminary inquiry should be made in a time bound manner and in any case should not exceed 7 days," reads the order.
If any cognizable offence is made out, SHO P/S Kishtwar is directed to proceed in accordance with law.
Speaking over the order, counsel for the complainant said that there is prima facia offence in the case and added that police should register an FIR against the accused. He said that Singh had contested election on Congress party ticket and Muslims in large numbers had voted for him and added that senior Congress party leaders should also come clean on the statement of Vikramaditya Singh.
"In fact Congress leaders from Kishtwar should apologize to the people since they asked the people from Muslim community to vote for him," said Najjar.
