“Battle with depression”
Komaljeet Gill7/19/2019 11:59:18 PM
The series of thoughts hit my soul often. Thoughts that are eating me alive. Thoughts that linger my soul, making voids. Thoughts that are acting like termites. Thoughts that are choking me in middle of the night. same perception is leading me to depression and creating stress inside my caged mind. Sometimes I feel like life is not fair or things never go my way.
Regrets failure, so many bad choices, shattered dreams, mistakes I made that brought me to the day I don't want to be in, the day I feel stuck in.
Each word, action or passing glance is an attack, my body aches, I feel tired of being in the world I don't belong to. All I want to do is sleep (my easy escape option) until the pain, the tiredness, the weight of thoughts I'm holding goes away.
My depression in reality is disappointment. Disappointment with myself. Too weak, too sensitive, too easily get influenced, lack of confidence, feeling of worthless and purposeless. These clouds of Gloomy thoughts hang over my head and never goes away, it creeps upon me during the most unexpected times. It lurks and waits for something great to happens just so it can ruin it and can convince me that its actually something terrible. I have those few Genuine moments in life in which my laugh or smile is real. But for most of the time, even when I'm smiling or laughing, I'm breaking on inside.
I wish I did not have to pretend. In all honesty it's the most exhausting thing I have ever done. Depression takes a lot from people just like other diseases might take away someone's ability to go with life like they used to. Depression takes my ability to act like the person I'm used to being. Nothing inside of me wants to continue living a life riddled with anxiety and consumed by depression.
Many of you are relating my story with your life. I know it's never easy telling someone about your mental health. It's never easy trying to explain the heavy feelings in your chest, the lack of motivation you have, the heavy head and whirlwind of sad thoughts that are constantly, but hold on------ don't loose hope
Remember the time you thought you never could survive the situation, you did and you can surely do it again.
It took 5 years to figure out what actually happened to my life. While going through it, a lot of changes reached the roots. Reforming from the confident person to a timid, it was really heart breaking. The fear of failures, regrets of past, emotional breakdowns and lot more was pilling up. I could not watch myself collapse. So, I decided to stand strong against these crummy thoughts. I started searching things to divert my mind
There are things that helped me to stay away from depression a little bit longer. Everyone is different my things might help you, they might not. But even if my personal solutions are not exactly right for you. I want to give you hope these are things, these are ways to beat depression. So here are the few things I do to help myself to stay out of depression.
1. Talk to someone: Talk to someone who is close to you, it could be your best friend, teacher, sibling or parents. Pour out your soul to him or her. Pick out what he or she speaks to you about your situation and remind yourself constantly of it. If you talk to someone but you still feel empty.
TALK TO GOD: cast all your worries, pain disappointments to him because only he gives you the assurance that everything will ultimately be okay.
2.Control Your thoughts: For many people depression begins in their thoughts, lots of discouraged people do not link their thinking with their feelings, but the two are highly connected.
When a person says, "I am WORTHLESS"
"I have NO FUTURE"
"I can't do anything right"
These exaggerated thoughts will shape your mood. Stop and replace them with truth "I'll work hard on myself, I have a value in the eyes of God "he loves me and promises to give a hopeful future"
3. Dont compare yourself to others: Comparison impedes positivity. It attracts the act of negativity and repels the needful vibes. It closes all the doors of self-improvement. Stop comparing yourself because it not only harm your mind but your self-respect. Stop disrespecting yourself for no reason, it will drag you to the disease called depression.
4. listens to your heart: Just lay still and listen to your heart. Ask yourself what you want and what adds meaning to your life. Search your soul for that, find out what motivates you and start planning towards it
5. Try Setting small and large goals: The best therapy for depression is distraction Engross yourself in any activity that can keep your mind off the pain.
**Read some good books to find your way to inner peace Books like "conversation with God "Neale Donald Walsh.
"life's amazing secrets"- Gaur Gopal das
"IKAGAI-Japanese secret to a long and happy life" -Albert Liebermann & Heltor Garcia.
"To anyone suffering from depression"- Stephen Hawking
"The Secret" _ Rhonda Byrne.
Some other therapies like exercising, swimming, dancing, music, drama, photography, painting, sports these therapies can be a healing force for the body and mind because the creative process helps in releasing brain chemicals that help in fighting depression.
Sometimes the only need is the family support to end the phase of depression.
Its my humble request to whosoever reading this article, If u r a parent try to understand your child as much as u can. May be they are afraid of you or not be able to talk about it openly .Try to be more friendly and polite towards them. No one else can provide the comfort like you can. Spend more quality time with them and have a healthy conversation. Try to teach them something meaningful every day.
It is difficult to know your role when your parents are in depression, taking care of them should be our top most priority. Be sure to remind them that they are not struggling alone, you are standing next to them, Express how important they are to you. As your parents are growing old take care of them, love them for all the sacrifices they made. Respect them for all the efforts they made to give you a comfortable life.
Only love care respect &understanding can minimise depression &help us to live happy & peaceful life.
