Early Times Report

Jammu, July 19: Lambasting leaders, who have made fake promises in past, the residents of Uppar Beli Charana said that they are demanding road for their area for last 55 years, when the colony was developed, but unfortunately our demand could not fulfill by the administration.
The area falls under Cantonment Board, nor the Board neither the local MLA has bothered for our sufferings.
Locals Puran Chand Sharma, Raj Pal Singh, Raj Kumar, Tajinder Singh, Anu Sharma, Paramjeet Kour, Rani Devi and others informed Early Times team during a visit this afternoon that despite repeated appeals at various level, nothing has changed in their locality.
"It has been learnt that funds have been sanctioned twice, but due objection of some locals, the works could not start, the colony was developed in 1965, unfortunately, a road for the residents has not been built till date", they said, adding that after construction of 4th Tawi Bridge and bypass road from Satwari to Bhagwati Nagar, need of another road has arisen, though there is a Kachha path, and vehicles pass through it. "We are just demanding blacktopping of remaining 700 meter stretch of the road", they said.
They further said that the cantonment board authorities have not provided them container for the garbage. "In the absence of container, people are forced throw wastage of kitchen and other items into adjoining plots, and sometimes it leads to ruckus over the issue", they said, adding that sometime labour from board comes to clean the drains, but it does not serve the purpose.
They residents also said that most of the occupants of the Upper Beli Charana are settled on state land, but the administration adopts pick and chose when it comes to compensation. "We are living here for past 20 years, our house came under the road widening plan when Satwari-Bhagwati Nagar road was built, our entire house was spread over 8 marals. It was dismantled by PWD, R&B, over Rs 6 lacs compensation was promised us but only Rs 4.07 lakhs were paid to us, remaining amount is still un-traceable", said, Anu Sharma, who runs a general store in the locality.
"Now we have one room for our family over the shop, luckily we had a shop here and managed to continue to stay there," she said.
