Early Times Report

Jammu July 22: Marwah Sub Division, one of the remotest area of Kishtwar District that even after the 72 years of Independence is struggling to get proper road connectivity beside the communication lines and electricity for the area having population of more than 45000 souls.
As per the details available with “Early Times” the youths of Marwah Sub Division under the banner of “Marwah Bachao Tehreek” are on hunger strike since last over one week in support of the various demands and resolve that they will continue the strike till the desired results could be achieved.
Speaking to “Early Times” these youths said that the public of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan so many times submitted the representation to the successive governments as well as to the various administrative officers who served in the district from time to time with regard to the burning issues of the area that required immediate attention of the government, but to their disappointment they received only hollow assurances time and again forcing them to sit on hunger strike so as to attract the attention of the present day government towards the key issues faced by the people of the area.
They said that the prime demand of the Marwah Bachao Tehreek is about the non existence of government offices and absenteeism culture in Marwah. They said that the Marwah based offices presently functional from District Headquarter Kishtwar should immediately start functioning from the Marwah itself, immediate mobile cum internet service in the area, to fill up all the vacant posts of CHCs & PHCs of Sub Division Marwah, permanent availability of lady doctor at CHC marwah, Ultra Sound & Digital X-Ray facalities at Marwah, road connectivity for 12 months of the year, road clearance project for Hynan-Hanzal road, settlement of all disputes pertaining to construction of Pethgam-Renie road, construction of Bata-Qaderna bridge the work on which was started 5 years ago, blacktopping and widening of Inshan-Goweran and Inshan-Marwah road and also demanded for tapping of vast tourism potential in the area.
The angry youths said that until and unless the government did not accept and fullfil their demands, they will continue the hunger strike till the desire results could be achieved.
It is pertenant to mention that “Early Times” in its 7-1-2019 edition highlighted the major salary scandal that has surfaced in Marwah Sub Division of Kishtwar District where hundreds of employees posted in the area are withdrawing their salaries through Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) without attending their duties since years together, thus putting the role of DDOs under scanner.
The irony of these areas is that they mostly remain cut off from rest of the state during winter season beside these areas also lack communication. The residents of Marwah, Warwan and Dachhan of Sub Division Marwah of Kishtwar District calls on the Governor Satya Pal Malik to intervene into the matter for making government offices in Marwah Sub Division functional at Sub Division headquarter as same are functioning from District Headquarter Kishtwar and virtually make it of no use for the poor people of this one of the remotest area of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
