7/23/2019 12:17:32 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 22: The Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch is likely to question another former minister in connection with the irregularities committed during at J-K Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC).
The questioning is on the cards after senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar was questioned by the CB over alleged irregularities committed during his tenure as public works minister in allotment of contracts for the JKPCC.
Sources said the former minister, who is likely to be questioned, has already been sacked by the party but is under scanner for large scale irregularities at the JKPCC. "But his role in the irregularities at JKPCC needs to be dug out only then the case can be cracked," said a source close to the investigations.
The Crime Branch has started investigations at time when the Governor SP Malik has said that at least three former ministers would be in the net on charges of corruption soon.
The CB sleuths last week quizzed Akhter at his residence. The person in question has been pleading innocence. "I am sure that truth will prevail. I have done nothing wrong and all due processes were followed," Akhtar has told media.
The officials said Akhtar was questioned about giving out work at JKPCC to a specific set of contractors and making some appointments without following the due process.
The questioning revolved around JKPCC work, construction work at the Islamic University in south Kashmir and allotment of work for setting up the AIIMS in south Kashmir.
Sources said the construction of stage for musical show held at SKICC during the PDP-BJP regime was also under scanner as it is believed that the around four million were spent on it. "How can forty lakhs be spent for construction of mere stage for a musical show that lasted for few hours. This needs to be probed," said a source in the JKPCC.
