Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 17: Continuing his mass contact programme riding a bicycle, the Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar Constituency as an independent candidate, today reached village Shergarh (formerly known as Giddar Gallian) where he get firsthand knowledge of the problems being faced by the locals.
Several villagers highlighted the problems of poor drainage system, unplanned development, poor sanitation besides erratic water and power supply. "The drains in our village can easily be called as gutters as they are choked with all sorts of filth. The blocked drains are breeding ground for worms and insects like flies and mosquitoes who hover around in our houses due to which an epidemic could break anytime in the area," a large number of residents told Munish.
Residents said that drainage system in the area has not been upgraded even as a large number of homes were built over the years adding that the drains in most of the area are choked due to which the filthy water gets overflowed all around.
Few locals also raised the dilapidated condition of lanes in the village which according to them are in terrible state for the last several years besides they also highlighted the irregular power and water supply.
"Water supply is not only irregular but it is also inadequate. Water to the area is being supplied after a gap of three-four days and that too for a very short duration," said residents.
While others minced no words in castigating the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan said that the state as well as the Union government is busy in making tall claims of cleanliness but the poor sanitation in our village is indeed a reality check for all such notions.
"The government has no concern for the villages like ours. Governments bother only for the affluent class. We have been made to live in hell like situation. We are now used to live along such inhuman conditions," said villagers.
Meanwhile, Munish Gupta in the course of his mass contact programme also paid a visit to Ganesh Vidya Kendra Middle School, Shergarh, where he interacted with the teaching staff and students.
The students were ecstatic at the arrival of Munish Gupta in their school and their enthusiasm was more than visible as they eagerly took turns to get photographed with the special guest.
