Early Times Report
srinagar, Aug 21: With government directing employees to attend their duties, those who go to offices turn to casual dresses by wearing Khan dress and chappal fearing backlash from stone pelters.
Amid tough situation, the government has directed employees to attend their duties forthwith.
Despite that majority of employees have stayed away from their duties in view of the prevailing situation and offices witness minimal attendance of employees.
Some of the employees have been going to duties on alternate days but have adopted a different strategy of not getting noticed by the people. They are fearing for stone pelters who are not allowing employees to go to offices.
"I didn't go to office in the first one week of the present turmoil. But the authorities have been pressurizing the employees to attend their duties or face consequences," an employees of Agriculture Department said, who wished not be named for fear of reprisal. "But for the last one week some employees residing near the Lal Mandi office come to the office on alternate days but wear casual dresses like Khandress (traditional attire of Kashmir consist of long Kurta) and chappals so that nobody notice that we go to the office," he said.
He said less than 10 percent staff attends their duties despite receiving pressures from the higher-ups to attend offices.
A faculty of Kashmir University, who resides near the university said less than ten percent professors and assistant professors come to the university in formal dresses (shirts, pants and coat). "No work is being done but some faculty members residing near the university come in casuals on alternate days. They do attendance and return back to home. Hardly anyone is coming in his own vehicle," he said.
An employee of the DC office Srinagar who has to come from old city Srinagar said it was not possible for employees to join their duties when stone pelters pelt stones.
"I had gone to office few days for the last two weeks but in trousers and chappals. Except health employees, no official want to get noticed that he has to go office in the prevailing situation," the official said.
The scene is similar at the civil secretariat in Srinagar-high seat of governance- which wears a deserted look these days with minimal presence of officials.
