No need for him now: JK Governor on Rahul Gandhi's visit
8/24/2019 11:11:11 PM

Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Aug 24: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Governor Satya Pal Malik on Saturday said that he had invited Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to Kashmir out of goodwill. Satya Pal Malik also said that while he had invited Rahul Gandhi purely out of goodwill, the Congress leader started politicising the J&K issue.
Satya Pal Malik's statement came hours after a delegation of opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi was denied permission to step out of Srinagar airport and was sent back an hour after landing in the city. The delegation was visiting Srinagar to review the situation, weeks after Satya Pal Malik invited Rahul Gandhi to visit the Valley.
Satya Pal Malik also said that the political parties should keep in mind the national interest in such situations.
Speaking to news agency Satya Pal Malik said, "I had invited him out of goodwill but he started doing politics, it was nothing but a political action by these people. Parties should keep in mind the national interest at these times."
Satya Pal Malik further said that Rahul Gandhi should have spoken when his colleague was speaking in Parliament after the Centre abrogated Article 370 from the region.
"There is no need for him now," Satya Pal Malik said.
The J&K Governor said, "There is no need for him now, he was needed when his colleague was speaking in Parliament. If he wants to aggravate the situation and come here to repeat the lie he told in Delhi, it is not good."
Rahul Gandhi on Friday accepted Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik's "invitation" to visit Kashmir to review the situation after the Congress leader expressed doubts on the government's claims on no violence in the state, following its decision to scrap Article 370 provisions.
As the Congress leader decided to visit Kashmir to review the situation along with a delegation of opposition leaders, the J&K government took to Twitter and discouraged the political leaders to refrain from visiting the Valley, saying that they should not disturb the peace process by their visits.
