Sports activities come to halt, 5 sports infrastructure projects of Jammu in limbo

Jammu, Sep 4: Despite huge pumping of funds from the Union government for up-gradation and creation of sports infrastructure in Jammu division, the five major sports infrastructure projects are still in limbo.
As per the data compiled by the Ministry of Youth Affair and Sports, the ministry allocated worth Rs 140 Crores projects for the development and renovation of sports infrastructure and activities, the major projects are still not completed after lapse of four years.
"The projects were sanctioned under the Prime Minsiter Development Package for enhancement of sports facilities in Jammu and Kashmir in financial years 2016-17 and maximum share have been released to Jammu and Kashmir government but all the projects is incomplete except one Indoor hall is completed.
The document reads as the renovation and development of Moulana Azad (MA) Stadium Jammu to ICC standard for International Cricket Matches was sanctioned under PMDP in which the union government allocated 42.17 Crores wherein Rs 33.74 crores stand released but the project is still in complete. The physical progress of the projects is 70 percent so far.
"The government allocated Rs 88 crores for the construction of 22 Indoor halls at every district level in which 59.94 crores have been released. 4 Crores each was allocated for each halls wherein only one indoor hall is completed and remaining one are not completed so far and the physical progress report till date is 60 percent", the document reads.
Moreover, one sport project of Udhampur district namely Up-gradation/completing of Subhash Stadium of worth Rs 9.81 Crores and 4 Crores sports project for Up-gradation of existing stadia at Rajouri and Poonch of worth Rs 4 Crores are still incomplete and their physical progress report are 70 and 80 percent respectively.
"While the three Crores was allocated for the development of water sports infrastructure in Jammu but ironically the construction work of the project is yet to start", the document reads.
