Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 16: As the alleged accused persons in mysterious death of woman in Godar area, falls under Kalakote Police Station, went scot-free, the brother of deceased woman questioned Police's inaction and said that efforts are being made to hush-up the case.
Deputy Lal, brother of deceased Chanderkanata alleged that the in-laws of his sister were harassing her since 2014 and finally eliminated her on 31August 2019 with final assault on the vulnerable lady. "The mother in-law of my sister along with her son kept harassing my sister, even just few days after her marriage", he said, adding, "On August 30, 2019 her husband Hardev Singh, her mother-in-law Pushpa Devi assaulted her with rod and left in the pool of blood. I went their home, when I came to know about her condition, and requested them to allow me to take her at my home, but they didn't show any mercy and forced me to leave that place."
Deputy said that he was surprised when he came to know about the news that she had consumed poison. "It is nearly impossible that my sister, who was repeatedly beaten by her drunken husband and mother-in-law, consumed poison, she has two children, she was very much concerned about future of her children (boy 7yrs and girl 4 yrs) and she cannot commit suicide", he said, adding that he was providing financial support to his sister for education of children and other requirements.
"My sister in 2014 had lodged a harassment case against her in-laws and latter on the matter was solved through Panchyat, but it didn't end there and they kept harassing her. Time and again they assured the Panchyat members to mend their way and but their repeated promises could not see the day light", he said, adding the concerned Police is trying to hush-up the case.
"My sister died during treatment at GMC Jammu, as after mysterious poisoning case, she was rushed to District Hospital Rajouri by her in-laws on August 31, 2019 and latter she was referred to Jammu for advanced treatment. She died late in evening of September 1, 2019 (Sunday) at GMC and her body was handed-over to family on next day. In the meantime, Kalakote Police on September 1, with the news of her death arrested both mother-in-law and father in-law (Prem Singh) and on next day her husband was also arrested", narrated Deputy Lal desperately to get justice for her sister.
"Prem Singh was freed on September 4 and while on September 10 both remaining accused, her husband and mother-in-law, were also freed by the Police", he said, adding that he had lodged complaint against the family members but Police seems reluctant to go-ahead. "I lodged a written complaint in Kalakote Police Station on September 6, but Police is not paying any heed and it seems that the short actions were for plan to save them", he added. "Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, ASI, Walayat Hussain who is supposed to take the case to its logical conclusion, is mediating to settle the case and turned negotiator from accused's side", he alleged, and added that the IO wants that they should go for a compromise rather than waiting for justice.
Deputy Lal said that a teacher from his community is also actively pursuing the case and had paved way for release of the accused persons.
When contacted SHO Kalakote, Sanjay Raina he said Police is waiting for the post-mortem report of the deceased and further actions will be taken on the basis of the report.
