Delay in declaring holiday on Sept 23: BJP leadership under attack for compromising with peoples' aspirations
9/17/2019 10:11:31 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 17: Notwithstanding decision of the party to hold a rally of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on September 22 to observe birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, BJP is facing criticism of people for its failure to convince its own government to declare holiday on September 23.
Taking advantage of prevailing situation in J&K, majority of senior BJP leaders are indulged into fulfilling their individual aspirations and wishes but they have failed to convince the present regime to declare holiday on September 23.
After passing of the resolution by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), various social groups have stepped up pressure on the BJP to declare holiday on September 23rd-birthday of last Dogra ruler Maharaja Hari Singh.
There is a feeling among people that it is high time to recognize services of Maharaja Hari Singh who had signed 'Instrument of Accession' to merge the erstwhile State of J&K with Indian Union.
People argued that after passing of resolution of JMC there was no reason to delay decision on this issue as sentiments of the residents of J&K were attached with last ruler of the State.
The general house of JMC, comprising Mayor, Deputy Mayor and all elected councillors, it its meeting on July 17 this year, had unanimously resolved "to honour the sentiments of the public by accepting the long-pending demand of Jammu people to declare a holiday on the birthday of late Maharaja Hari Singh."
BJP corporator Narotam Sharma had moved the resolution which was passed without any opposition from the Congress or independent candidates in the general house meeting, where out of 75 corporators BJP has 43 members.
BJP has earlier repeatedly assured to fulfill its commitment of 'recognizing' services of last Dogra ruler by declaring holiday on his birthday anniversary.
