BDC elections: 56 file nomination papers for 13 blocks of Kishtwar District

JAMMU, Oct 9: Even though three major political parties including Congress, National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party have called for election boycott to Block Development Council (BDC) elections, as many as 56 candidates filled nomination papers for 13 blocks of Kishtwar district. Those who filed nominations today include 12 from BJP and 44 others as independent.
As per the details available with "Early Times", among the 13 blocks, 6 blocks have been reserved for women candidates and as many as 22 women filed their nomination against the six reserved blocks and also from the other blocks of Kishtwar district.
Among the 13 blocks, BJP candidate Sri Chand (Sarpanch) from Trigam block has been declared winner unopposed and the final result in this regard will be announced on Friday on the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers. The result for other blocks will be declared on October 24 after the completion of the voting procedure.
Speaking to "Early Times", Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana who is also District Election Officer said that the AROs had received 56 nomination forms from Panchs and Sarpanchs in all the 13 blocks of Kishtwar.
Dy Election Officer Kishtwar Masood Ahmed Bichoo said that the total electorate in Kishtwar District is 1016 which comprises of 126 Sarpanchs and 890 Panchs adding that Drabshala block has highest electorate of 157 votes followed by Mughal Maidan with 123, Padder 110 and Kishtwar 100 votes.
He said that out of 13 blocks, highest number of nomination of 9 candidates has been received from Thakrie block while two from Palmar and only one from Trigam block. He said that after scrutiny and last date for withdrawal of nomination forms, the symbols to independent candidates will be issued.
Another official told the "Early Times" that though the Congress had announced that it will not contest the BDC elections, the candidates representing the party also
filed the nominations as independent candidates.
Similarly, the Panchs and Sarpanchs having affiliations with National Conference and PDP had also filed their nominations as independent candidates.
