Early Times Report
POONCH, Oct 9: Despite release of Rs 3.5 lakhs from Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) fund for the construction of toilet complex in the premises of a temple in Mendhar, the work has been left incomplete allegedly due to the embezzlement of funds.
Sources told Early Times that given the long pending demand of the locals of Mendhar for the construction of toilet complex in the premises of temple, the work to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakhs was sanctioned through Block Development Office Mendhar from MPLAD funds and subsequently the construction work was started but after creating structure the work was suspended due to some unknown reasons.
"It has been months since the work has been left midway leaving it incomplete. The main objective of getting toilet complex constructed remained unfulfilled. The funds were also not spent on it and might be siphoned off," said President Santan Dharam Sabha, Balram Sharma.
He further said that there were more such works in the Mendhar area which have been left incomplete. "We want thorough inquiry in above said matter and the culprit should be brought to book," he demanded adding that it has become a common practice that works are started and funds are released but most of them remained incomplete.
When contacted BDO Mendhar said that he had recently joined the office and had no knowledge about this matter though he assured that action will be taken if any discrepancies were found.
