Congress protests, demands abolition of Sarore Toll Plaza
10/16/2019 9:14:39 PM
Early Times Report
Samba, Oct 16: Congress on Wednesday took out a protest demonstration at Sarore against the installation of Sarore toll plaza and alleged BJP for imposing 'Jazia' on the name of toll plazas.
Hundreds of members of Congress while protesting demanded the immediate abolition of Sarore toll plaza. While holding ply cards and raising slogans against the BJP and the NHAI, the agitated protesters accused authorities for imposing taxes upon them by the name of toll plazas. The demonstration was led by former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla .
The protest was organized by former Minister and Congress Samba District President Manjeet Singh. While raising slogans against the BJP and the NHAI, the agitated protesters accused BJP for imposing taxes upon the people which has subjected them to further loot and plunder in view of the ongoing inflation and economic crisis.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that firstly the BJP government at the Centre has imposed heavy traffic penalties on the people of the country by amending the Motor Vehicle Act 2019 and now government forcibly installing the toll plaza in Jammu region in a hurriedly manner. He said the government was testing the waters before going whole hog with installation of two more Toll Plazas in Jammu's vicinity at Rajbagh and on the Ring road.
These entry-exit points would not only break the back of the people with hefty taxes but deeply hurt the religious faith of the Hindus all over the country who visit Mata Vaishni Devi Ji shrine to pay their holy obeisance, Bhalla regretted. He criticised the government for allegedly implementing the amended MV Act in the State without any mercy.
Instead of implementing the existing Motor Vehicles rules effectively, the government was "penalising" people imposing hefty fines, which cannot be accepted," he said. Bhalla said that a common man who finds it difficult to provide two times meal per day will find it difficult to pay such toll tax of huge amounts. The government should find another way for collection of its revenue rather to impose this tax which is totally against the poor peoples, he said.
He said by installing the Toll Plaza at Sarore BJP itself has betrayed the mandate of Jammu region. He said earlier the BJP former Minister has dismantle the toll plaza installed at the same place terming it was injustice with the people of Jammu but now how they will justify it.
Former Minister and District Congress Committee, Samba, president, Manjit Singh today appealed Governor to roll back Sarore Toll Plaza while extending support to transporters / matador owners.
