Gurpurab celebrated with religious fervour

JAMMU, Nov 12: The winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday celebrated Gurpurab, the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji here with religious fervour and gaiety. Attired in colourful dresses, members of the Sikh community, including women and children this morning, thronged Gurudwaras, religious congregations and offered special prayers on the occasion.
The main function was held at Gurdwara Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Chand Nagar, situated in the heart of the city. Thousands of Sikhs from different parts of the city and outskirts visited the Gurudwara to offer the prayers. Meanwhile, special langars were also organised for the devotees in the Gurudwaras.
550th Prakash Utsav of Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj celebrated by District Gurudwara Prabandakh Committee, Poonch along with entire Sikh Sangat in thousands with Mahant Manjit Singh Ji of Sheromani Dera Nangali Poonch especially called him on this auspicious occasion where Ragi Pracharaks and all the religious people came on the said occasion. Mahant Manjit Singh Ji also spoke and stressed upon the Sikh Community to adopt the path shown by Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj in every fields of life in order to become true and pure Sikh for serving the poors and needy people in the society and also wok for the betterment of the country. While speaking on this occasion appealed to the parents of Sikh Youth to forgo the use of drugs but to become Amrit Dharis and to come to the field of Education side so that they can become a most prosperous Youth in the Country which being the need of the hour for which he had opened educational Institutes for learning and also doing technology works by studying Engineering and Technical Education so as to become the leaders in our society to lead in the Society.
On the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan along with Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Shahid Iqbal Chowdhary today visited Chattipadshahi, Rainawari.
Interacting with the devotees in the Gurudawara, the Div Com said that the festival symbolizes social unity and equality. He said that Guru Nanak Dev ji dedicated himself to the cause of the poor people, irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Later he had a meeting with Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (GPC), Srinagar and assured them of full support from Divisional Administration.
On the occasion, the Div Com also kick-started plantation drive inside the premise of the Gurdwara. The drive was organized by Urban Forest Division Kashmir.
