J&K Police inebriated with power, manhandled Sajad Lone, Shah Faesal: Mehbooba Mufti
11/17/2019 10:38:51 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 17: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday alleged that the state police manhandled separatist-turned-mainstream-politician Sajad Lone, PDP leader Waheed Para and former IAS officer Shah Faesal while shifting them to a government accommodation in Srinagar.
Mehbooba Mufti, on her Twitter handle, also alleged that Sajad Lone was repeatedly "frisked and asked to undress" by the J&K Police. The detained leader's daughter Iltija had tweeted on behalf of Mehbooba Mufti.
Alleging that the J&K leaders were humiliated, the former J&K chief minister said the J&K Police seems to be "inebriated with power".
"SKICC detainees shifted to MLA hostel, Srinagar today. Police manhandled them and roughed up Sajad Lone, Waheed Para and Shah Faesal. Is this how you treat elected representatives? Why humiliate them? J&K is under martial law and police seems to be inebriated with power," she tweeted. She said, "The same Waheed Para whose work for strengthening democracy in J&K was lauded by former Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh. The very same Shah Faesal who was called Kashmir's role model when he topped the UPSC exam. Once appreciated & now humiliated. Why?"
Speaking of Sajad Lone, Mehbooba Mufti said the leader was repeatedly manhandled and "asked to undress".
"Manhandling started when Sajad Lone was repeatedly frisked and asked to undress. New jail windows are blocked with wood, lacks heaters and has surveillance jammers. If a man who PM Modi called his younger brother is being humiliated like this, imagine the plight of others," she tweeted.
Mehbooba Mufti was on Friday shifted to a government accommodation in the city from a tourist hut located at the foothills of Zaberwan range.
The move was necessitated as the approaching winters and frequent power cuts made it difficult to stay in the hut which was converted into jail after she was detained on August 5 this year.
Mehbooba Mufti, along with Omar Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah, was detained in the early hours of August 5 when the Centre announced abrogation of provisions of Article 370 besides bifurcation of the state into the union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
