Political process set to begin
11/18/2019 10:36:42 PM
Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Jammu & Kashmir Girish Chander Murmu stated that the Assembly elections in the Union Territory of J&K would be held soon and the process for it would be initiated shortly.
The LG's statement means that the political process in J&K is all set to begin and politicians would be making a comeback. But this time around the political leaders will have to do their politics in the newly carved Union Territory of J&K where the rules of game have changed and old faces are likely to be replaced by the new ones.
The biggest change which has taken place is that the dominance of Kashmir-centric politicians has ended and Jammu is all set to get equal share of Assembly seats after the delimitation process is completed.
During the past seven decades Kashmiri politicians, who ruled J&K, never allowed a Dogra leader to hold the Chief Minister's office. When they were in power they managed to put a freeze on delimitation so that no one challenges their hegemony.
The reorganization of J&K has brought Jammu at par with Kashmir and it ended the 70-year rule of the Kashmiri leaders, who used to believe that they are superior and they are born to rule.
The Assembly elections in the Union Territory are going to be an entirely new experience especially for the people of Jammu region as they are hoping to see a Dogra leader holding the Chief Minister's office for the first time since 1947.
The wrongs which were committed in the past seem to have been undone.
Time has come for the leaders from Jammu region to stop acting as second fiddles and stand on their own feet so that they could do something for their people, who have been at the receiving end for the past so many years.
Jammu leaders should stop worrying about Kashmir-centric leaders and take a pledge to fight for the cause of Jammu people collectively.
The changed political scenario in the Union Territory of J&K has provided a chance to the politicians of Jamnu region to take the charge and lead from the front. One hopes that the politicians will muster courage and tell truth to people rather than promising moons and stars. The new beginning has to be made and its foundation has to be laid on the truth. The days of deceit are over.
