Chidambaram turns aggressive
12/10/2019 10:14:02 PM
Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram since his release from Tihar Jail on bail has launched scathing attacks at the Government of India (GoI) and has made every possible attempt to corner the GoI over its Kashmir policy.
Chidambaram remained at Tihar Jail for 106 days in connection with the money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate. "BJP is targeting its political rivals. I will never buckle under pressure or join the ruling BJP. As we speak now freedom is denied to 75 lakh people in Kashmir. If freedom is denied to one person it meant denying it for all people" Chidambaram said. One big reason for Chidambaram taking an aggressive stand could be that he wants to push the GoI on the back foot by raking contentious issues. Before being sent to Tihar Jail, Chidambaram tried his best to maintain a low profile and stay away from the controversies but it did not help his cause. He ended up in a jail as the government did not give him any relief.
It seems Chidambaram has realized that attack is the best form of defence and if he wants to stay relevant then he has to remain in news. But it seems he has chosen the wrong option to attack the GoI. His rhetoric over Kashmir has no takers as someone needs to tell him that 75 lakh people of Kashmir are free and there are no restrictions on the movement of people and life has returned to normal in the Valley. The only restriction in Kashmir at present is that there is no internet. It has been blocked to prevent the terrorists from communicating with their masters sitting across the Line of Control.
Chidambaram should realize that his irresponsible statement on Kashmir can provide a handle to Pakistan to propagate lies about Kashmir. P Chidambaram is a senior leader of a grand old party and has held important portfolios in the past. He needs to get his facts right before opening his mouth. If he continues to harp about freedom being denied to the people of Kashmir he can end up in a mess again for indulging in a false propaganda against his own country. He needs to choose his words carefully as the issues which he is raking are directly connected to national security. Everyone knows that he is angry with the government for putting him in jail but that doesn't mean that he will utter whatever he wants.
