Woman abused, beaten in broad daylight, craves for justice

RAJOURI, Dec 14: A middle-aged woman who was sexually abused and beaten in broad daylight in an area of Mendhar and is under treatment from last eight days is craving for justice accusing police of shielding the accused and putting a question mark on justice delivery system.
Victim has been identified as Kulsoom Begum, 45, wife of Shokat Hussain resident of Kalaban Mendhar. The woman, who was assaulted by a group of men on the morning of December 6, received initial medical aid at Sub District Hospital Mendhar after which she was referred to Rajouri hospital where she is under treatment with fracture in hands besides injuries in some other body parts. Taking to Early Times, the victim alleged that over some dispute that started during Panchayat elections after her family didn't vote on lines of an influential family of Kalaban village of Mendhar, an influential goon of the area along-with his associates started threatening her.
"Few months ago, they raped my daughter and a complaint was registered before Mendhar police station and victim remain hospitalized also but men in khaki paid no concern and I am still in search of justice for my daughter," alleged woman. She further said that the accused attempted to rape her in broad daylight in Chatral area of Mendhar on December 6. He tore apart her clothes and beaten her mercilessly after which she is under treatment from last eight days with multiple injuries and fractures.
"Mendhar police didn't even bother to record my statement in hospital and also distorted the statement made in the FIR," she alleged. "Police in Mendhar is openly shielding the accused as even after eight days, no one has been arrested and all the accused are roaming free," the woman further said who added that the accused is openly claiming support of police and that no one can touch him.
SHO Mendhar Tahir Khan, when contacted, said that a case has been registered in this regard but the accused persons are absconding. "A police team has been constituted to nab them; searches at various places have been conducted. They will be arrested soon", he said.
