Jammu, Jan 19: In a tragic accident, the Utter Pradesh based Civil Engineer working as Project Manager at under construction 1000 MW Pakal-Dool Power project in Kishtwar died after a stone hit on his read at inlet point of the Tunnel at Dangdoru village of Dachhan some, 55 KM from Kishtwar.
As per the details available with Early Times, the deceased identified as Satwinder Upidiya died on spot after a shooting stone triggered from under construction tunnel hit his head while he was working at the Project site as a result of which hundreds of labourers working at the Dangdoru project site held a strong protest against the management of Jai Prakash Industries blaming the project management of ignoring the safety of labourers engaged in construction and other civil related works of the project.
The angry labourers told the Early Times that this is the 3rd death at project site in last one year due to negligence and highhandedness of project management added that earlier on 22-2-2019 two labourers Gurpreet Singh and Vijay Gupta died at the same site and called for registration of FIR against the project management for their negligence.
They said that the project site even lacks medical facilities and even their was no ambulance available at the project site which according to them is grass violation of the standing norms.
They said that they even suffer to shift the dead body of the deceased to Kishtwar Hospital due to non availability of ambulances and after delay of several hours, they manage the ambulance and shifted the dead body to District Hospital Kishtwar from where it will be taken to the native village of the deceased.
They said that few days ago one labour also got injured and fractured his leg added that to utter surprise, the vehicle engaged by the project management is without documents as a result of which the injured labour will face difficulty in procuring the insurance benefits.
The labourers further said that their is also no proper arrangements of oxygen supply inside the tunnel, nor the project management had made any arrangements with regard to bringing the toxic gasses out of the tunnel which according to the labourers will be dangerous for the health of the labourers working inside the tunnel.
They said that they will continue their protest till the project management will not adopt all the safety and other standing procedures for the welfare of the labourers and called upon the government to initiate action against the project management for violating safety measures.
“For the sake of saving few money— project management is playing with the lives of poor labourers— this must be end— project management have to be serious towards the lives of the poor workers working in tunnel as well as project site both at Dangdoru as well as in Dool” said that angry labourers calling for action against guilty officials due to whose negligence the precious life was lost today.
