Early times report

JAMMU, Jan 20: : It is strange but true that the essential Biochemistry Department of the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu remained headless for 2 days without anybody taking care of the day to day activities of the department.
Here need to mention that the Head of the Department (HOD) of the department, Dr. Amarjeet Singh Bhatia is on sanctioned leaves and Associate Professor Dr. Rachna Sabharwal was acting HOD and looking after the working of the same department was also on sanctioned leaves and Assistant Professor Dr Kapila Raina took leave last Saturday and the department remained without in charge.
If sources are to be believed, the HOD of the above said the department has been on the leaves for last some days. Pertinently whenever a senior doctor goes on the leave, he or she gives charge to next senior doctor for looking after the day to day activities of the department but there was no acting HOD and same remained headless 2 days and it is criminal negligence towards their duties.
“The matter came to know when an attendant approached the lower staff of the same department seeking clarification of the some reports related to blood tests as he was told that there was no acting HOD for 2days and asked to come on Monday,” they claimed, adding that it is very shameful that the department, which is playing an essential role to help the ailing patient to provide right information regarding tests, which are most essential to begin any the treatment has left on God’s mercy.
Sources further told that two senior doctors (Dr. Rachna Sabharwal and Dr. Kapila Raina) after Dr. Bhatia went on the sanctioned leaves by the head of the institute on the same day and doctor very next among them was not informed even not handing over the charge of the department in the absence of three senior doctors.
It happened first time in the history that a department’s three senior doctors were on leaves and it has leftover without any in-charge raises many eyebrows over the cooperation of the staff of the same department as well as the working of the department.
Ahead of DNB inspection, shows the non-seriousness of administration as to why altogether all the three senior faculty members were on sanctioned leaves and no one was there to look after the department.
When contacted Head of Department, Dr. AS Bhatia told that he was on sanctioned leaves as he was looking after his ailing father.
Dr. Rachan Sabharwal was not available for comments.
“I was on leaves due to personal issue,” Kapila Raina Associate Professor of the same department.
