Early Times Report

Kalakote, Jan 23: It may sound shocking but it is true that the Government High Secondary School Dalhori of Kalakote in Rajouri district has been functioning in single room due to which classes are being conducted in open sky which virtually deflate the claims of Government of providing better facilities.
Although VVIP visit of Union Ministers’ in Jammu and Kashmir under its Outreach Programme has been running in various part of this district with much fanfare but it failed to catch the attention of deplorable condition of the students, who are compelled to sit in open sky for classes. Sources told Early Times that the school was established in 1953 as High School later it was upgraded to Higher Secondary just last year where 250 students study but shockingly school was upgraded but not infrastructure and still running with single room that too is used by Principal for administrative work.
They further said that the most of the students come to school after covering 5-10 kilometers of distance from remote areas, even the transportation facility is not available in the area, the roads connecting to school are muddy and dilapidated creating huge inconvenience for the students.
“We have been facing huge difficulties in getting education due to absence of class rooms and have to sit in the open ground, where classes are conducted by the teachers. During rains, no class is conducted and students are sent to their homes and at time we take shelter under the tree and wait for the time when rain is over,” students told Early Times.
One would not believe but it is fact that last time school bags 5 distinctions in Class 10th in which girls emerged as most meritorious students who earned accolade for the school, which vindicates that students have great passion for studies despite facing hardships in the absence of proper infrastructure, the local alleged.
“Although two rooms were sanctioned in 2015 and the work was allotted to BDO Dhangri, which raised walls after spending Rs 14-15 lakhs but left the work without putting slaps on it due to unknown reasons,” they said. Students alleged that political leaders only give long speeches and false assurances but do nothing. “The Center Government’s ‘BetiPadaoBetiBachao’ slogans seem totally hoax in case of our school’ conditions,” they said.
The local Sarpanches, Panches of the area said that they approached the District Administration as well as the Education Department in this connection but despite their repeated requests nothing has been done.
When Early Times contacted DEPO RajouriRakesh Gupta for his comment, he said matter is under consideration and eight rooms have been sectioned for the school and Rs 15 lakhs have been released to PWD for carrying out construction.
