Jammu, Jan 28: The Gandhinagar Morning Walkers celebrated Republic Day at Gandhinagar’s greenbelt with tremendous enthusiasm and fervor. The entire park was decorated with national flags and patriotic songs were played. Over three hundreds persons participated in the function.
A senior member of the Morning Walkers and retired Session Judge H. S. Bahari unfurled the Tricolor followed by the national anthem. K. B. Jandial, IAS (Retd) and former member J&K Public Service Commission apprised about the making of the constitution of India and appealed to the people to respect the constitutional values and perform fundamental duties which every Indian is enjoined upon by the Constitution to discharge as bounded duties. He explained that the Constituent Assembly having total membership of 389, had its first meeting on 9th December, 1946 and adopted the Constitution on 26th February, 1949 after deliberating all possible matters of country with diversity in 11 sessions spreading over 166 days in two years and eleven months. Of these members, 292 were elected by the newly constituted Assemblies of States of British India while 93 were nominated by rulers of Princely States and about 90 of them migrated to Pakistan. The original constitution was written by hand in Hindi and English which carried caricatures of popular epic of Ramayana and Mahabharata. The process of signing of the Constitution by members including four from J&K State was completed on 24th January, 1950.

Ved Pargal, Raman Gupta businessman, Anil Gupta, Kulbhushan Atri social activist, R S Kaphi and Arun Goswami of Bharat Samaj Parishad, Suresh Sharma, Bhupinder Singh Subash Gupta & Ramesh Goswami, all businessmen.
