SRINAGAR, Feb 3: It seems that the VIP culture still exists in whatsoever manner in Kashmir; otherwise the hospital ramp wouldn’t have been used on daily basis by some staff member in Nihama PHC of Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
Ramps are built on hospital entrances so that people who are disabled and use wheelchair can comfortably get in the hospital. The stairs are usually not comfortable for wheelchair users as other people have to lift the wheelchair in order to get in the hospital
According to sources that, some staff member in KulgamNihama Primary Health Centre has become habitual of parking his car on daily basis on the ramp of hospital due to which patients suffers badly, adding the general public should know the importance of ramps, why they have been meant.
Many times we approached the authorities about the same injustice which they meet every day, but the arrogant staff member hardly listens to anybody, sources informed Early Times.
It becomes an uneasy for patients to go inside the hospital for treatment as ramp of the hospital is always occupied by a vehicle bearing registration no: JK03E 5778.
Early Times have come to know from the transport authorities that, the car bearing no: JK03E 5778 is belongs to one of the doctor (name with held).
However sources said that some years back the Ministry as well as the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) from time to time requests the State Govts. /UT Administrations for providing barrier free access to public places by constructing ramps, and lifts.
Sources also said that, the VIP culture still exists in our society, and everybody wants to become VIP by showing his attitude rather arrogant approach.
Fact of the matter is that in the month of April/2017, close on the heels of the decision to ban the use of red beacons on vehicles from May 1, Prime Minister NarendraModi said in his Mann Ki Baat address that this was an attempt to end the VIP culture with an EPI (every person is important) culture.
All the 125-crore people of the country have equal importance, the Prime Minister said in the monthly radio programme.
“When I say EPI should replace VIP, the meaning is clear — Every Person is Important. Every person has value and importance,” Prime Minister said. “If we recognize the importance of 123-crore citizens of the country, imagine the big strength that the country will have in fulfilling the grand dreams. We all have to do it together.”
However sources said that due to barriers, individuals with disabilities are less likely to get routine preventative medical care than people without disabilities.
