BARAMULLA, Feb 9: Despite inauguration of Trauma Centre Watergam Rafiabad by the Union minister, the building has been left to dogs as the posting of almost 69 Medical and paramedical staff besides installation of 33 machines has not been fulfilled yet by the Finance and Health departments. According to sources that, in the first major outreach programme of Modi led government, the Union Minister for Law and Justice, Communications and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad inaugurated Trauma Centre constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 4 crore on January 23-24 at Watergam village of Rafiabad area in Baramulla district.
The foundation stone of trauma center Watergam was laid down in 2013, and the building was occupied by the concerned department of health in 2019, said sources.
They said that, the 10 bed trauma center was established at Watergam Rafiabad, that is centrally located place, it has a capacity to cater the patients from twin district of Baramula and Kupwara like from Singhpora Pattan to Uri area, viz a viz from Kandi Baramulla to Chowkibal Kupwara.
More than Rs 4 crore were spent on Trauma center and the building is in shambles due to poor response of finance and medical education department, as creation of posts was not fulfilled yet.
Sources while quoting the letter vide no: DHSK/plg/G/Creation/2336-39 DATED 01/09/2019, creation of staff and requirement of machinery/equipment’s for trauma hospital Rafiabad Watergam district Baramulla, has not been fulfilled yet.
Sources said that, 69 posts of Medical and Paramedical staff was to be created including of Consultant surgeons, consultant Physicians, consultant anesthetist, Radiologist, Ortho Surgeons, Medical Officers and other staff, and likewise, 33 machines have been sanctioned for this trauma hospital including Cooler Doopler, digital X-Ray plant, portable X-Ray plant, CR accessories, Adult Ventilator, ICU beds and other machineries.
Mudasir Ahmad of Watergam village said that, “fact of the matter is that, the trauma center or hospital should be well equipped with staff to provide care for patients suffering from major traumatic injuries such as motor vehicle collisions, falls, or gun shots, or the patients that suffers multiple injuries while as it is like an emergency department.
Even though, the trauma center should have a helipad for receiving patients that could be airlifted to the hospital so that they can receive faster and better medical care, said Mudasir.
A group of local residents from Rafiabad area said that, “one fails to understand that, when government has spent huge amount worth crores on this trauma center, why they have failed to create posts till date, adding there is no doubt the building is visible but this center lacks basis facilities that one trauma center should have”.
This is 10 bed centers, and on daily basis we see road accidents in which scores of people lost their lives due to no emergency treatment in time, and it is all because of non-seriousness of government, locals informed.
