Police to question ‘Neta’ for ‘Jaish links’
2/9/2020 11:16:23 PM

Jammu, Feb 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Police are likely to question a former lawmaker from the People’s Democratic Party, whose close relative was caught in connection with the grenade blast at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on January 2.
As per the police, it was Jaish e Muhammad militant outfit that was responsible for the attack and that the module had been busted with the arrest of three youth including the nephew of the politician, Muhammad Khaleel Bandh. The attack had left two civilians and two paramilitary jawans wounded.
As per the police, one of the three arrested Shakeel Ahmed Bandh, had been putting up at the official residence of Muhammad Khaleel Bandh at the Government Quarters in Tulsi Bagh for the last three odd years.
Sources said police was trying to ascertain as to how come, the PDP leader had allowed his nephew to live at his official residence and “if the uncle was aware of the activities of the nephew.”
“There are some questions that need answers. First we’re trying to question him(Shakeel) and next could be him (Khaleel Bandh),” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
The official said it was crucial to ascertain that if presence of such a militant in a secured area like Tulsi Bagh was a threat to the security of those living in the vicinity.
“Where was the explosive stored? Was it stored at Tulsi Bagh Govt Quarter and if more militants had access to the government facility, everything is being ascertained,” said the official.
As per the police, the three arrested youth including Naveed Ul Lateef and Shamshad Manzoor had been indoctrinated by the speeches of Jaish Chief Azhar Masood.
It is pertinent to mention that Jaish was responsible for the deadly suicide bombing on CRPF convoy on February 14, 2019 that left over 40 jawans dead. The police had recently claimed to have eliminated Jaish leadership in Kashmir.
Despite repeated attempts, Muhammd Khaleel Bandh couldn’t be contacted for comments.
