Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 17: Editor -in-Chief Early Times, Munish Gupta, who would be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, has urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration to address the grievances of the residents of Bhour Pind area.
The Bhour Pind area falls in the Ward 73 of Jammu Municipal Corporation. “Problems being faced by the residents are genuine and authorities need to address their issues without any delay. I hope the administration will take a note and come for the rescue of the people, who are facing immense hardships is absence of the basic amenities, “ Munish said.
The residents told Early Times that the basic amenities meant for survival are missing in their area. “ The lackadaisical attitude of the PHE officials has left us in lurch. Our taps run dry for days together. How can we survive without the potable water? Our repeated pleas have fallen on deaf ears as the PHE officials dont want to listen,” they said.
“Every month we are told that electric motor in PHE station has developed a snag and it has been sent for repairs. It takes days together for this motor to get repaired and we are left without water supply, “ said, local residents Vishal Bhagat, Surinder and Vikas Bhagat.
They also alleged that contaminated water is being supplied to the residents. The PHE supply pipe has been leaking from a point for the last many months, which contaminates the water and same is supplied to the people. The PHE officials are aware about the leakage but they have not resolved the issue till date, said, Rashpal, Puran and Ramesh Lal.
They said that the pressure of water supply is very low. “Water doesnt reach the upper areas. PHE officials say that they cant do anything about it. People living in upper areas have to fetch the water from the houses of people living in lower areas, locals said. Residents also informed that the transformer which has been placed just close to the ground poses life threat to the locals. “The live wires of the distribution transformer touch the ground and during rains its current is felt by the people. The transformer has been placed very low. During rains, water gets collected nearby it and the livewires touch the water. We have informed the concerned officials about this issue many a time but nothing has been done till date,” residents said.
They also expressed concern over their area being left unattended vis-à-vis garbage collection. Ward 73 is the newly created ward under JMC but the facilities, which were promised, have not reached us. Garbage remains unattended for days. This issue needs to be addressed on war footing basis, residents said.
