With no bridge at Darsoo, locals risk lives to cross river Tawi
2/21/2020 11:54:29 PM

UDHAMPUR, Feb 21: Panchayat Darsoo in district Udhampur comprising of four hamlets is not linked with mainland due to which the locals in order to reach their respective destinations have no other option but to cross river Tawi. Despite repeated pleas of the locals to construct a bridge, there was no action to provide these people a safe link.
Every day locals as well as students of these four villages risk their lives to cross the river Tawi. The villagers in order to conduct their daily chores have no other means but to cross the river on foot and a few, who don't mind to wet their clothes, swim across from one bank to the other. Often adults are seen carrying children and elderly people on their shoulders to help them cross the river.
“With no foot bridge in our area, we are forced to cross the swallowing river with bags on our heads,” said a student of village Pinger adding that people have been suffering due to lack of proper connectivity in the area.
“We are forced to live the life which our parents used to live as there is no change here in terms of roads, medical facilities, electricity and potable drinking water. Since decades, neither our elected representatives nor previous governments or district administration took stock of our plights,” said a local, Farooq Ahmed.
He further said the locals are waiting for the construction of a bridge at Darsoo over river Tawi but nothing has been done so far.
“Due to the absence of bridge many people have migrated from that villages towards other places,” he said.
Over 4000 population of Pinger, Prori, Sarni, Kaliya and other adjoining areas are cut from main road.
“It is a herculean task to cross the river during rainy season as it’s impossible to cross the swollen river. It would be far easy for the people if a bridge is constructed,” he said.
He requested Lt Governor to take serious note on this and instruct the district administration to construct a bridge over river Tawi at Darsoo.
