With politicians in jail, KAS officer decongests Anantnag town
2/21/2020 11:55:00 PM

ANANTNAG, Feb 21: With the shifting of at least five passenger vehicle stands, a 2011 batch KAS officer posted in Anantnag district of South Kashmir as Assistant Commissioner Revenue, has successfully managed to decongest the town for smooth movement of traffic.
Syed Yasir, ACR Anantnag, who himself toured Anantnag town on bicycle before implementing his plan for decongesting the town, says that he intends to initiate more steps for ensuring smooth movement of traffic in and around the town.
“So far we have shifted five vehicle stands to other places. Few more stands are being shifted so that movement of traffic gets smoothened,” he told Early Times.
Last week, as Additional Magistrate, ACR Anantnag had constituted a committee. ARTO Anantnag Shabir Ahmad, Executive Officer Anantnag, Mir Mohd Ismail and Tehsildar Anantnag were the members of the committee and ACR Anantnag himself was the chairman of the committee. In a week, the committee deliberated on the issue and charted out a plan for decongesting the town. “Shifting of sumo stands was important without shifting them we can’t decongest the roads,” says Syed ACR who believes that the town needs a full proof master plan.
Earlier, Chairman Municipal Council Anantnag, Hilal Ahmad Shah had initiated the same process but didn’t receive the support of Anantnag district administration and district Police.
Anantnag residents, who enjoy decongested roads these days, say that administration managed to decongest the town because the politicians are in detention or hiding in Jammu. “Politicians would always covertly create problems for the officers and other people who wished to change and provide some kind of relief to pedestrians,” a group of locals said, however they wished anonymity as they are businessmen and feel that once the politicians return back they could create problems for them.
They said that in past the residents requested the administration to shift Sumo Taxi stand situated near Government Girls Higher Secondary School Anantnag as it was creating traffic jam on Mehnadi Kadal- Janglatmandi road but politicians would always interfere and stopped the officers from doing anything.
“I am happy that the district administration has shifted these Sumo Taxi stands and decongested two roads connecting GMC Anantnag and MCH Anantnag with the town,” Rayees Ahmad, a resident said.
The district administration has shifted five passenger vehicle stands including Mattan Minibus stand to General Bus Stand and decongested important roads like Mehandikadal-Sherbagh road and Mehnadi Kadal- Janglatmandi.
