Dumping of animal wastes, garbage into Rajouri river go on unabated
Health Deptt’s advisory in view of Coronavirus overlooked, MC on silent mode

EARLY TIMES REPORT

RAJOURI, Feb 23: The continuous dumping of animal wastes as well as garbage by the shopkeepers in the local river of Rajouri has made the water polluted making it inconsumable and has been posing serious threat to the human lives of the area.
Moreover the health advisory issued by Health Department in view of Coronavirus threat is being ignored across the town by people as well as the Municipal Committee Rajouri, which is main implementing agency for ensuring sanitation in and around the Rajouri town, which has been acting as mute spectator.
Sources told Early Times that the chicken and meat selling shops dump the animal wastes into river during night hours. Moreover, the other shops including vegetable sellers also throw garbage into river, which has turned the river into dumping yard as a result the water of the
river has become totally polluted.
“Jhula Bridge is main point, where the insanitation can be observed at its extreme, which emanates foul smell making it difficult for the passersby as well as the local residents to pass through that stretch. People can be seen covering their mouth while crossing over the bridge,” they said.
They further informed that Municipal Committee takes no steps to stop this malpractice of throwing animal waste into the river by taking action against such shopkeepers. “The lackluster approach of MC against defaulters is only due to alleged monthly commission fixed between officials and the shopkeepers,” they alleged.
MC, Executive Officer Rajouri, Kasturi Lal, when contacted took the issue lightly and said that he would take note of it. The cold response of EO MC Rajouri, was clear indication that department is least bothered to take action against offending shopkeepers due to it’s ulterior motives.
