Back to Village prog proves damp squib for Kotli Kalaban village of Rajouri

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 24: The much hyped Government of Jammu and Kashmir initiative of Back to Village programme with an aim to reach far flung areas of the Union Territory and to listen to their grievances had proved to be a damp squib for village Kotli Kalaban of Tehsil Manjakote in District Rajouri as it is facing major water scarcity.
The village is craving for drinking water due to which women of the area had to walk miles to fetch water for running domestic affairs leaving the inhabitants to question the government’s sincerity to organize two Back to Village programmes in last one year as the same failed to fulfill the genuine aspirations of the people living in the village particularly at the time when Union Government is claiming that it has introduced a flagship scheme to provide water to each household by 2024.
Speaking to Early Times, the local villagers informed that women of the village along with their minor daughters were often seen carrying buckets and utensils atop on their head to bring water home after walking miles to reach the nearest water source. The local advocate Besaat Khan from Rajouri also shared some pictures of women and her minor daughter carry utensils on their head depicting the sorry state of affairs mocking at the functioning of PHE department as well as non-serious approach of the administration to deal with such important issues of public importance.
The locals further told the Early Times that they have brought the matter into the notice of senior officials adding that however official machinery is tight lipped over the issue which is adversely affecting the inhabitants of this village who are being considered as people of lesser God.
Locals urged upon DC Rajouri Nazir Ahmed Sheikh to look into the matter so that the people particularly women of this village didn’t suffer any more.
