Make Narwal Bala garbage free, people under fear of coronavirus: Munish asks admin
Locals urge authorities to act fast, otherwise it would be late
3/25/2020 11:12:04 PM

JAMMU, Mar 25: Editor-in-chief Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Wednesday appealed the authorities to get the garbage cleared from several places in Panchayat Halqa Narwal Bala on priority so that the people not only can breathe fresh air but could also heave a sigh of relief in the wake of coronavirus threat as they are under a cloud of fear.
“With threat from coronavirus looming large, the unsanitary living conditions in Panchayat Narwal Bala have made the local residents more susceptible to the deadly disease. The authorities should immediately ensure removal of garbage from the area,” said Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency.
“It’s a pity that the locals residing in different localities of Narwal Bala are suffering due to the laidback approach of the concerned authorities. People at the helms of affairs need to wake up as the open garbage dumps in these areas are posing a grave threat to the inhabitants. Trash scattered all around has become a breeding ground for insects and stray animals,” he added. Meanwhile, local residents of Narwal Bala, a part of Gandhi Narwal Assembly constituency, while speaking to Early Times said that the Panchayat has a vast area which is comprised of several localities like Kargil Colony, Kiryani Talab, Qasim Nagar, Mistry Mohalla, Tarkhana Mohalla and Noorabad adding that most of these areas have turned into garbage dumping sites.
“Apart from the garbage piles becoming an eyesore, they are also causing health hazard to the residents living in the surroundings as the entire world is under grave threat from the menace of coronavirus. Authorities concerned were urged to take steps to get the garbage piles cleared at the earliest but so far no action has been taken. Act fast otherwise it would be late,” the local residents said.
Naib Sarpanch Narwal Bala, Aslam said that people are greeted with piles of unclear garbage that is dumped indiscriminately on the roadside in almost all the localities in the vicinity thus making it a major concern for the inhabitants.
“There is too much of unattended trash in every nook and corner of the Panchayat. It is our misfortune that proper sanitation for our Panchayat is constantly getting ignored when every ward in the city limits is getting cleared from unwanted waste and garbage to in order to minimize the threat posed by the coronavirus,” said Aslam.
“Heaps of garbage is everywhere. We requested the concerned authorities to depute garbage lifting vehicles to our Panchayat so as to clear it from filth and dirt. We also sought spraying of disinfectant in our localities to counter the ill-effects of coronavirus but till now all our pleas were turned to a deaf ear,” he added.
Naib Sarpanch, Narwal Bala also urge the authorities to provide 300-400 masks to their Panchayat which has a large area consisting of slums where economically backward people are putting up adding that such poor people should be supported whole-heartedly as they have limited resources to protect them from infections.
