Politics can wait
3/25/2020 11:12:45 PM

National Conference vice-president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, maintaining silence over the political issues is an indication that he is no mood to end up in trouble again.
Omar, who was released after 8-month detention, on Tuesday made it clear that first priority is to fight Coronavirus and politics can be discussed later. He demanded restoration of 4G internet services in Jammu and Kashmir so that people can remain aware about what’s happening around them.
Omar skipping abrogation of Article 370 and not talking about what happened on August 5, 2019, has made many people believe that NC president Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar, have accepted the reality and after staying in jail for months together they have decided to accept the Government of India’s decision and move ahead.
Despite Farooq and Omar being under detention their party has not disintegrated like its one time bête-noire, Peoples Democratic Party. The NC has stayed intact with most of it leaders not changing their goal posts.
On the other hand the PDP is in disarray. Former J&K chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, will have to work very hard to rebuild her party as most of her lieutenants have deserted the party. The time has proved that Mehbooba’s party comprised of the people, who had come together for the sake of power. The only factor binding the PDP together was power. As soon as the BJP pulled out from the PDP led government in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018, the party started disintegrating and its leaders just drifted away.
Farooq and Omar seem to have realized that if they keep on raising the pitch and talk about restoration of Article 370 and Kashmir being an issue, their party too can disintegrate and both of them will be left alone. It seems father-son duo has decided to carry on and this should serve as an eye opener for Mehbooba Mufti and others, who still seem to be living in an illusion.
At present Jammu and Kashmir along with the rest of the country and the world is fighting against the deadly Coronavirus outbreak and politics has taken a back seat. More than anything else people need solace and assurance that world would come out from the present crisis and human race will survive. Politics and other issues can wait. There is no hurry to jump the gun.
