Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 31: The duty roster of the GMC doctors has contradicted the alleged claim of HoD Microbiology, Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu that the doctor who tested positive for COVID-19 was not part of Coronavirus testing team. The HoD has denied that she ever made such claim.
The official duty roster of GMC doctors and other staff engaged to diagnose cases of deadly virus has gone viral on social media.
After the medico (name withheld), a lecturer in Microbiology Department of the GMC Jammu had tested positive the Head of Department, according to few media reports, had claimed that the former was not part of Coronavirus testing team.
“It is very unfortunate, the administration in very unprofessional manner, disowned the brave medico, who without caring for his life discharged his duties from March 13 to March 19 as head for collection of samples for Coronavirus cases”, said a doctor, adding that the HoD disowning him has discouraged the work force.
“He (doctor) has tested as positive, which is very sad. Such dedicated doctors are required to be encouraged and their contribution should be recognized. But the HoD has undermined and concealed the dedication of doctor toward his duties”, the doctor added. The medicos while talking about other shortcomings while handling cases of deadly Coronavirus said, “Substandard protective gears are being provided to us. If higher-ups visit the hospital, administration has kept few pairs, but the duty staff is being provided with substandard protective gears. This has put their lives at stake.”
“The protective gears provided to us is without PVC coating, which is against the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), it is very unfortunate, that some people at helm of affairs, at this crucial time are worried about their own interests over lives of the medical staff engaged to take care of infected/suspected cases of Coronavirus”, the doctor said, adding that similar reports are emerging from Kashmir where doctors are being provided substandard protecting gears.
Dr.Shashi Soodan Professor & Head, Microbiology when contacted said that the doctor who has tested positive was on duty. “He is very dedicated doctor, he discharged his duty very professionally”, the HoD, said adding that she doesn’t know what media has reported.
