Acknowledge role of doctors
4/1/2020 8:32:25 PM
Doctors and other members of the medical fraternity who are at the forefront of fighting a war against COVID-19 in Jammu and Kashmir deserve appreciation and recognition. They cannot be disowned. Recently a doctor from Jammu, who was a part of a testing team, tested positive for the COVID-19. But an attempt was made to disown him by claiming that he was not the part of the team fighting Coronavirus in Jammu. The duty roster punctured the claim as it clearly mentioned that he was heading the team to conduct tests of the suspects for one week. In the first world countries where the COVID-19 wrecked havoc, doctors were provided all the facilities and equipment to deal with the crisis. But in Jammu and Kashmir they are not being even provided with the proper protective gears, masks and sanitizers. This is really unfortunate. We need to acknowledge their role and contribution rather than accusing them of negligence and treating patients shabbily. The COVID-19 has brought the activities across the globe to a grinding halt. These activities cannot resume till the curve flattens and the virus gets killed. In absence of any specific medicine to treat this deadly virus doctors across the world are finding it hard to manage the patients. We have to understand that the COVID-19 has brought the countries like United States, China, United Kingdom and Italy on their knees. These countries have the world's best healthcare infrastructure and the best doctors. In India the number of COVID-19 positive cases has surpassed 1400 mark and the experts are of the opinion that the number will increase further. We have to remain prepared for any eventuality. This is not the time to rake up controversies. The COVID-19 has been declared as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO). It means that every human being on earth can fall prey to this virus. The doctors are aware about this fact but they are putting their lives at stake and are exposing themselves to risk with only one aim to stop this virus from killing people. They need our support and cooperation. We have to assure them that the entire nation stands with them and they need not worry. In Jammu region things are still much better as only more than 10 cases have been reported. Situation seems to be well under control in Jammu Division. One hopes it remains under control and the COVID-19 curve flattens.
