Despite DDC Poonch’s permission, Akhnoor police restrict entry of trucks to Jammu for essential commodities

Early Times Report

POONCH, Apr 1: Although Government has directed different functionaries to cooperate each other in fighting Coronavirus but it seems that Akhnoor police has not been implementing the same and creating hurdles in smooth supply of essential commodities during lockdown.
As per sources, despite requisite permissions from District Administration Poonch, the entry of trucks to Jammu is being restricted by a police chowki in Akhnoor area. Sources said that the Chowki Incharge has been treating the drivers of trucks unprofessionally and not leaving them to Jammu for bringing essential commodities like grocery items during lockdown.
In order to maintain the availability of essential commodities in the district, the Deputy Commissioner Poonch issued permissions to trucks for ferrying stock of essential commodities but a Sub Inspector rank police officer, posted in one of police in Aknoor area, has been stopping the entry of these trucks on irrelevant grounds, despite knowing the fact that district administration Poonch itself has issued permission to these trucks so that availability of grocery may not face shortage in the area.
“These trucks are getting hassle free entry from various nakas of Poonch and Rajouri district but when these trucks enter in Jammu, the same are stopped by the police officer. The officer says that this permission slip is not admissible and keep us wait for hours together,” the drivers alleged said.
They further said that it is very shocking that District Magistrate’s order is not respected by the police. “If private trucks are not allowed then why permissions are being given to us. We are being harassed at the hand of police during these critical times,” they said. They appealed to the SSP Jammu to intervene into the matter so that they might get access to Jammu.
