SRINAGAR, Apr 1: At a time when the spring season is all set to knock the doors in Kashmir the administration in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district has asked the people to cut down the female Russian poplar trees in the district.
Over the years the female Russian poplars in the Kashmir valley have been creating problems for the people. The pollen that is emanated by these poplars lead to multiple health related issues for the people living across the length and breadth of the Kashmir valley.
Tehsildar Budgam Nusrat Aziz has ordered all the people who have grown Russian poplar trees to cut the trees at the earliest as the same has been ordered by the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir. The revenue authorities have been directed to ensure that High Court directions are complied with.
Tehsildar Budgam issued the order and passed on directions to the people as well as authorities to cut down the Russian poplar trees in some of the villages of the district. In the order it has been written that the concerned revenue authorities shall ensure that there is strict implementation of the order.
“Keeping in the view the aforementioned facts and before the spreading of pollen will also take place Naib Tehsildar Budgam, Naib Tehsildar Sholipora, Naib Tehsildar Soibugh and Naib Tehsildar Humhama are directed to get their field staff activated for complete cut down of female Russian poplar trees falling within their territorial jurisdiction,” reads the order Teh/Bud/TREE/19-28/279-94 dated 31-3-2020.
The order further reads that Girdawar Circle Budgam, Soibugh and Ichgam will assist the Naib Tehsildars for pruning process. “SHO Budgam is directed to provide the necessary police protection as and when required to the Revenue staff. All Naib Tehsildars will submit the compliance on weekly basis,” the order reads.
The order has referred to the directions issued by the High Court in this regard and said that the top court has already ordered for the removal of female Russian poplar trees. It has also said that Deputy Commissioner Budgam has from time to time issued directions for the removal of female Russian poplar trees.
The Tehsildar in the order has said that the pollen seeds lead to respiratory problems for the people in general. It also says that the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir has already imposed ban on the plantation of female Russian poplar trees as their seeds cause allergy and aggravate respiratory disorders.
The Tehsildar has also touched upon the Corona Virus in the order and said that the virus has spread in the half of the world. It has said that pollen seeds of female Russian poplar trees if spread can increase the rapid transfusion of Corona Virus among the common people.
