BARAMULLA, Apr 3: Police on Friday claimed to have arrested six associates of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militant outfit in separate raids at Handwara and Sopore areas of north Kashmir.
A police officer told that acting on a tip off, a joint team of SOG and army arrested two persons during a raid at Shalpora area of Langate in Handwara last night.
On the basis of specific information regarding the activities of Anti National Elements (ANEs), the houses of Azad Ahmad Bhat S/o Ab Razak R/o Shalpora Langate, Altaf Baba S/o Salam Din R/o Rafiabad Babagund, Irshad Ahmad R/o Selikoot Uri were raided last night and during search Arms/ Ammunition and letter pads of proscribed militant outfit Lashkar-e Toiba (LeT) were recovered and the three were arrested, the police official said.
They said that, during questioning it came to surface that all the persons were working with militant outfit LeT and were motivating the youth of the area by providing them arms and ammunitions to join militancy.
They further disclosed that they have provided arms and ammunitions to some youth who joined militant ranks recently and are operating within the jurisdiction of Handwara. Today on 03.04.2020 in the morning hours, Handwara Police along with 21RR, 30RR and 92 Bn. CRPF following the input regarding the presence of militants in Village Gund Chogal launched a search operation.
During search operation 04 terrorists of LeT outfit have been apprehended who were later identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Chopan S/o Ab Rashid Chopan R/o Shartpora Langate, Mudasir Ahmad Pandith S/o Ab Rehman R/o Zargar Mohalla Langate, Mohd Rafi Sheikh S/o Mohd Ahsan Sheikh R/o Eidgah Mohallla Langate and Burhan Mushtaq Wani S/o Mushtaq Ahmad R/o Tulwari Langate.
Huge arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession including 03 AK-47, 08 AK 47 Magazines, 332 AK rounds, 12 Hand Grenades, 03 Pistol, 06 Pistol Magazines, 24 Pistol Rounds, letter Pad of LeT outfit.
In this context Case FIR No. 104/2020 U/s 120 B IPC, 7/25 I.A Act, 16, 18, 19, 38, 39 UAP Act has been registered in Police Station Handwara. Further investigation into the matter is under process.
Earlier, two associates of Lashkar-e Toiba (LeT) were arrested by government forces at Noorbag area of Sopore town.
The raid was carried out by the SOG Sopore and army at Noorbagh area of the apple town last night following specific information.
During the raid two OGWs of the LeT militant outfit were arrested, the officer identified the arrested duo as Waseem Ahmad Gojri and Junaid Rashid Ganie of Noorbagh, Sopore.
“One pistol with magazine, five rounds, one UBGL (launcher), two UBGL (grenades) and other incriminating material were recovered from their possession,” he said.
In this connection, a case under FIR number 61/2020 under section 7/25 I Arms Act and 4/5 Explosive Substance Act, 18, 20, 23 Unlawful Activities Act has been registered in police station Sopore and further investigations initiated in this regard.
