103 positive cases of Corona Virus in JK as three more test positive from Kashmir
144 more persons complete quarantine, get discharged

SRINAGAR, Apr 6: Three more positive cases of Corona Virus were reported from the Kashmir valley today. As a result of this total number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir reached 109.
Out of the 109 positive cases four persons have recovered while as two deaths have also taken place. Therefore as on date there are 103 active cases of Corona Virus in the union territory. The fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from Nowshera and Chattabal areas of Srinagar district and Uri area in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The government through the media bulletin informed that three new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), all from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir to 109.
“Out of 109 positive cases, 103 are Active Positive, four have recovered and two have died. Regarding their location, 85 cases are from Kashmir and 18 from Jammu division. Furthermore, till date 35,243 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance,” said the media bulletin.
The media bulletin said that these included 10,556 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 615 in Hospital Quarantine, 103 in hospital isolation and 17506 under home surveillance. Besides, 6,463 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period.
The bulletin said that till date 1,708 samples have been sent for testing of which 1583 have tested as negative, and 16 reports are awaited till today. The bulletin urged the general public to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily.
The bulletin stressed on people to take extra time and care for themselves during the COVID-19 outbreak. “Spending quality time with family and getting involved in family discussions while staying at home during this period will help reduce anxiety and distress. Try to connect with your family members & loved ones through phone call or video call if they stay far from you.”
The bulletin called on people to engage in recreational activities like solving puzzles, playing some board games, listening to music, reading etc to reduce boredom. “It is important to be physically active. Simple stretching exercises, simple yoga postures, walking indoors or meditation will be beneficial not only for your physical health but also mental health.”
In the meantime, 144 more persons who were shifted into administrative quarantine upon their return to Srinagar two weeks ago were discharged today after successfully completing their 14-day quarantine period.
All these persons having returned back in Srinagar two weeks ago had been put under quarantine in top-grade hotels the district administration has requisitioned for use as quarantine facilities. While most of them belonged to Srinagar this group also included those belonging to other districts of Kashmir.
Upon discharge the latter were entrusted to their respective district headquarters in SRTC busses, the Srinagar administration had arranged for their convenience. Srinagar residents in the group were all ferried home or entrusted to their families.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Syed Haneef Balkhi who has been designated as overall in-charge of quarantine facilities established in the district oversaw their discharge and their transportation. Other supervising officers including SDM East Sandeep Singh Bali were also present on the occasion.
The group like all others before was under thorough medical supervision throughout their quarantine period and was discharged after clearance from doctors and health authorities. The remaining overseas-return or domestic travelers in administrative quarantine in the district will complete their quarantine period and will be sent home this week.
