Few ventilators
4/7/2020 9:03:53 PM
Jammu having just 91 ventilators is a cause of concern. The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the focus of people towards how many ventilators do we have? Many were shocked to know that successive regimes have not paid much attention towards acquiring the ventilators and there are not even 100 ventilators to cater to huge population of Jammu region.
The tall claims of the politicians, who during their tenure bragged about health sector being a priority, stand exposed today.
People fear that if COVID-19 turns into a full blown crisis, how the hospital will manage patients without ventilators. The critically ill patients require ventilation to survive. Everyone is hoping that this virus is contained before it wreaks havoc.
The number of COVID-19 positive cases in Jammu is very much less than Kashmir and many are hoping that the number won't increase drastically. However, the situation is grim and COVID-19 threat is very much alive amidst lockdown. It has not subsided. The government of the day needs to pay attention towards the shortage of ventilators that Jammu is facing and attempt needs to be made to get in more ventilators so that doctors are able to save the lives of people, if they get infected due to this deadly virus.
People of Jammu went out of way to support BJP in 2014 assembly elections and party won 25 out of 37 assembly seats in Jammu region. The saffron party went on to share power with the Peoples Democratic Party. The Health Ministry remained with the BJP for more than three and a half years. The BJP leaders need to sit back and ask themselves, did they ever bother to check how many ventilators Jammu hospitals had? Had they just made an attempt to improve the health sector when they were in power, the hospitals in Jammu region could have been better equipped. The leaders, whom people had thought would become their voice after coming into power didn't pay any heed to the basic needs of a common man. If one starts counting it's not only the ventilators, there are many basic life support machines, which are not there in Jammu hospitals.
The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the erstwhile regimes to hilt. It has proved it beyond doubt that politicians remained busy in politics and didn't pay much attention to governance.
