Pregnant woman tests positive at MCCH Anantnag after delivery

Anantnag, May 28: A pregnant lady, who was operated for caesarean section at Maternity and Child Care Hospital Anantnag on Wednesday morning has now tested positive for coronavirus today. Doctors at MCCH Anantnag said that the patient was operated for caesarean section as she had developed complications. “It was an emergency case. Patient had developed fetal distress and the baby was at high risk so we decided to operate her only to save both mother and child,” a gynecologist at MCCH Anantnag told Early Times. She said that COVID test of pregnant woman was awaited at the time operation but today she has tested for coronavirus. “She received her COVID test report today and unfortunately she has tested positive for the virus but she is asymptotic,” she added. Medical Superintend MCCH Anantnag, Mirji Andrabi told Early Times that doctors and other supporting staff who operated the pregnant woman were fully equipped and had took all the precautions.
“Our staff is fully prepared to deal with the situation. They took precautions and operated the pregnant women who developed serious complications,” he said. MS MCCH Anantnag said that he has directed doctors and paramedical staff of the hospital to refer only those patients to SDH Bijbehara who report from containment zones. “I agree that another pregnant women who we referred to SDH Bijbehara as tested negative after testing positive for coronavirus but the patient wasn’t in isolation at Red Zone during last two weeks so we for this we have treat her again as COVID suspect,” he said. He said that testing of pregnant women in the district was also going at slow pace. “It’s the duty of filed functionaries to test every single pregnant women before the expected date of delivery,” he said.
