China moves back
7/8/2020 11:53:40 PM
Chinese troops pulling back from Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh has vindicated the tough stand taken by the Indian leadership over the incursions by the Peoples Liberation Army of China.
PLA troops’ pulling back is a move towards de-escalation and the possibilities of a war breaking out between India and China have lessened.
Soon after the clash at Galwan Valley in which 20 Indian Army soldiers were martyred, the Indian leadership took a bold stand and took China by its horns. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, led from the front and did not allow China to dominate or dictate the terms. He assured the Army that entire nation stands with the armed forces and gave them a free hand to retaliate. PM Modi took everyone by a surprise by visiting forward posts in Eastern Ladakh. From there he sent a clear message to China that era of “expansionism” is over and India won’t get bogged down.
The Government of India’s decision to ban the Chinese internet applications in India and the countrywide campaign to “boycott Chinese goods” rattled the Chinese establishment as these steps directly hit their economy.
Indian Army deployed in Eastern Ladakh is in its full state of preparedness and any misadventure on the part of China can lead to a bigger conflict.
It seems China has realized that “New India” is different from the India which it faced in 1962 and if China continues with its tough posturing it will end up paying a heavy price as India is prepared to go to any extent.
The game plan of Chinese has gone wrong. Pakistan, which could have played a pivotal role to instigate China, too has been left red faced as it tried its best to pit China against India. The Indo-China war which looked inevitable just a few days ago appears to have been averted as China has understood that it cannot get away with everything. The beginning of de-escalation process is an indication that Chinese also know it very well that they cannot afford to fight a war with India as the Indian Army is well equipped and trained to take on the PLA in the mountain warfare.
China has shown its willingness to hold negotiations. The Galwan Valley clash and subsequent withdrawal of Chinese forces from there has provided an opportunity to India to settle the issue of Line of Actual Control (LAC) once for all. It will end the conflict with China and will provide a chance to the Indian armed forces to concentrate on Pakistan and the terrorist camps present there.
