SRINAGAR, July 8: The union territory of Jammu & Kashmir continues to witness steep hike in Corona Virus cases and the deaths related to the virus. While 330 fresh cases came up across the union territory today six people lost their lives in the past 24 hours.
Reports said that while two deaths each were reported from Srinagar and Baramulla districts respectively one death each was reported from Shopian and Budgam districts. So far 149 persons have lost their lives due to the COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir. While 135 deaths have taken place in Kashmir 14 such deaths have occurred in Jammu. Reports said that Srinagar reported 119 cases of Corona Virus followed by Baramulla 82 cases, Anantnag 26 cases, Rajouri 23 cases, Kupwara 18 cases, Doda 14 cases, Bandipora and Samba seven cases each, Budgam and Udhampur five cases each, Reasi, Kulgam, Shopian and Ganderbal four cases each, Pulwama, Jammu and Ramban two cases each and Kathua & Kishtwar one case each. The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that 330 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), 59 from Jammu division and 271 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 9,261. Also six COVID-19 deaths have been reported from Kashmir Division.
Moreover, 168 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 38 from Jammu Division and 130 from Kashmir Division. Out of 9,261 positive cases, 3,545 are active positive, 5567 have recovered and 149 have died; 14 in Jammu division and 135 in Kashmir division. Out of 4, 21,571 test results available, 4, 12,310 samples have tested as negative till date.
Additionally, till date 3, 04,585 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 39,156 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 45 in hospital quarantine, 3,545 in hospital isolation and 46,106 under home surveillance. Besides, 2, 15,584 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Srinagar has 1396 positive cases, 895 active positive, 465 recovered, 36 deaths; Baramulla has 1176 positive cases, 645 active positive, 501 recovered, 30 deaths; Kulgam has 928 positive cases, 265 active positive, 646 recoveries, 17 deaths; Shopian has 866 positive cases, 223 active positive, 629 recovered, 14 deaths; Anantnag district has 755 positive cases, 160 active positive, 583 recovered, 12 deaths.
“Kupwara has 643 positive cases, 183 active positive, 453 recovered, seven deaths; Pulwama has 590 positive cases, 313 active positive, 273 recovered, four deaths; Budgam has 504 positive cases, 201 active positive, 292 recovered, 11 deaths; Bandipora has 323 positive cases, 38 active positive, 282 recovered, three deaths and Ganderbal has 138 positive cases, 59 active positive, one death,” reads the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 417 positive cases, 96 active positive, 313 recovered, eight deaths; Udhampur has 298 positive cases, 85 active positive, 212 recovered, one death; Kathua has 261 positive cases, 60 active positive, 200 recovered, one death; Ramban has 243 positive cases, 39 active positive, 204 recovered; Samba has 208 positive cases, 80 active positive, 128 recovered.
“Rajouri has 171 positive cases, 99 active positive, 71 recovered, one death; Poonch has 132 positive cases, 16 active positive, 115 recovered, one death; Doda has 120 positive cases, 56 active positive, 62 recovered, two deaths; Reasi has 52 positive cases, 17 active positive, 35 recovered and Kishtwar has 40 positive cases, 15 active positive, 25 recovered,” reads the bulletin. Out of 9,261 positive cases in J&K 2623 have been reported as travelers.
The bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap and water and following good respiratory etiquette and hygiene. As a measure for social distancing in public places and workplaces wearing a face cover is compulsory.
