Early Times Report

REASI, July 10: For the past three and half years huge population living in some of the villages of Tehsil Pouni in this district are craving for a developed road even though the paper work seems to have been completed in this regard.
Sources told Early Times that in January 2017 Ajay Nanda, then Minister of State in Jammu & Kashmir wrote a letter to the Public Works Department (PWD) asking for the development of road covering around two kilometers. Despite a lapse of more than three and half years there has been no progress and people continue to suffer on this front.
“After receiving many representations to develop the road in the Sudeen Panchayat, Nanda wrote a letter 88/HMOS/F&P dated 6-1-2017 to the PWD asking the department to develop the road under NABARD.
The concerned Superintending Engineer made the estimate for the work and forwarded the document to Chief Engineer PWD Jammu,” said sources.
Sources said the estimate was put at two crores and it was expected that road would be developed soon.
The development of road would have led to numerous benefits for the people living in the Sudeen Panchayat. It was meant to connect Sudeen with the Bhola Sudh and the total length of the road was two kilometers.
Sarpanch Sudeen Panchayat, Neelam Kumari Sharma who owes allegiance to Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is all fire with the government saying that the Chief Engineer PWD Jammu has prepared the final works estimate and forwarded to the concerned Commissioner Secretary’s office at Civil Secretariat in May last year.
“The Chief Engineer has forwarded the letter to the Commissioner Secretary R&B under the official letter CEJ/DV/S/406/08 dated 21-5-2019. More than a year has passed since then but no work has been started. If this is the case with the Sarpanch of BJP then one can easily understand the apathy towards the Panchayat representatives of other parties,” said Neelam while talking to Early Times.
The Sarpanch along with the locals of the area have appealed Lieutenant Governor Girish Chander Murmu to ensure that the necessary funds are released for the work and the development of road becomes a reality. They have also demanded to identify the ‘guilty’ so that punitive action is taken against them.
Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) Pouni, Pawan Bagh said that the proposal to develop the road already lies with the concerned department and the engineering wing is ready to work. He said that only government knows when the funds would be released and when the work would start.
