Alleged encroachment of cremation ground land at Lower Barnai hurts sentiments of people
Issue will be resolved in next 3 to 4 days: Tehsildar
7/11/2020 12:53:05 AM

JAMMU, July 9: Despite submitting number of complaints to the authorities regarding encroachment of over 14 kanals of land belonging to Shamshan Ghat (cremation ground) at Lower Barnai by a family of the same village no directions were issued to police to lodge FIR in case till date, thereby encroachers have started farming activities on said land illegally.
As per documents available with Early Times, the residents of Lower Barnai had complained to the authorities that land measuring 14 kanals and 11 marlas, which was kept for Shashman Ghat by the villagers has been encroached by the Chanchal Singh and his four sons including Ranjeet Singh, Angrez Singh, Yashpal Singh and Sham Singh all residents of Lower Barnai.
“We approached the authorities for removal of encroachment and taking action on the complaint the then DC Jammu after going through proper investigation found that illegal encroachment has been done and consequently he got encroachment removed and demarcated the land following which pillars were erected,” they said.
They further informed that after some time, the alleged encroachers again encroached upon the land of cremation ground by throwing out the pillars and dumped debris on the land. Residents again moved an application to administration requesting thereby a direction to SHO P/S Domana, for registration of FIR against the aforesaid persons, thereby Additional DC Jammu on 28 -10-2019 forwarded the application to SDM Jammu North for taking necessary action under rule and SDM Jammu forwarded the same to Tehsildar Jammu North to visit on spot. The Tehsildar vide No. TJN/OQ/19-20/338 dated 6-11-2019 submitted his report to SDM Jammu with regard to encroachment over the cremation ground and further SDM forwarded report vide No. SDM/JN/Misc/19-20/924 dated 18-11-2019 to administration.
However, even after a lapse of two months no action was taken by the concerned authorities. The applicants again moved a reminder to administration requesting to issue direction to SHO Domana Jammu for registration of FIR against the aforesaid persons but the direction was issued to SDM North Jammu to again examine the matter on 3-2-2020 but to utter surprise, no action has been taken by the SDM North Jammu till date.
They further said that encroachers on 30-6-2020 used JCB on the land and illegally cultivated paddy crops upon the cremation ground land by using tractor. Local villagers termed it insult to sanctity of the cremation ground and their beliefs.
When contacted the Tehsildar North Jammu, Jai Singh, told Early Times that the matter is very much in his knowledge and in next few days, the action will be taken as per reports. He further said that due to extreme business in quarantine centers for COVID-19 patients, he couldn’t give time to it but the issue would definitely be taken to its conclusion in 3-4 days.
