Set up plasma bank in Jammu
7/13/2020 11:50:47 PM

As the COVID-19 cases are increasing the medicos have started relying on plasma therapy. Fervent appeals are being made to people who have recovered to come forward and donate their plasma.
The doctors are claiming that plasma donated by one person can save two lives.
Voices in Kashmir are becoming shriller to set up a plasma bank in Srinagar but in Jammu it appears that no such attempt is being made. It seems people managing COVID in Jammu are not even aware about the plasma therapy.
This therapy was initially started in Delhi after the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sought special permission from the health ministry.
The ICMR had stated that plasma transfusion is not that safe and did not recognize it as a treatment for the COVID-19. But this therapy has given positive results in some cases and doctors are using it as a last resort in high risk patients.
The administration needs to focus on setting up the plasma bank in Jammu also as the cases are increasing at an alarming rate.
Nothing should be left to chance till some medicine or vaccine appears. The government has made it clear that we have to learn to live with COVID-19. People of Jammu have shown exemplary discipline and have set an example.
In Kashmir both the number of cases as well as the mortality rate is high and situation seems to have gone out of control.
The administration has re-imposed lockdown in the Srinagar district to prevent COVID-19 from spreading further.
The helmsmen need to shift their focus on Jammu region also and steps need to be taken to ensure that COVID-19 doesn’t spread its tentacles here. There are reports that migrant labourers are trying to enter into Jammu illegally by crossing Ravi River.
By doing so they are putting their as well as the lives of others at stake. This practice needs to stop as they can become super-spreaders of the COVID-19 in Jammu region.
The guard against the COVID-19 cannot be lowered till the curve flattens and it appears that the COVID-19 won’t go till some proper medicine or a vaccine is found.
The administration in Jammu needs to ensure that it remains well equipped to face the crisis which can erupt at any point of time. Setting up of plasma bank should be a priority. There is an old adage that precaution is better than cure.
