Jitendra Singh, Ram Madhav in self-quarantine after BJP's J&K Chief Tests Positive for Covid-19
7/15/2020 12:13:52 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 14: Union minister Jitendra Singh and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav have gone into self-quarantine after party''s Jammu and Kashmir unit president Ravinder Raina, who had accompanied them to the residence of a slain party leader, tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.
Singh, who is also a party MP from Udhampur, said he has gone into self-quarantine.
"Have gone into self-quarantine with immediate effect from 4 PM today, after receiving the news about corona positive test of J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina who had accompanied us from Srinagar to Bandipora on 12th July," he tweeted.
Singh, Minister of State for Personnel, had visited the house of his party colleague Waseem Bari, who along with his father and brother were shot dead by terrorists in North Kashmir''s Bandipora last week.
Singh, who is also a doctor, was accompanied by Raina, Madhav and other leaders during the visit to Bari's residence.
Madhav also tweeted, "Am quarantining myself for a few days since my colleague and BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina tested positive for corona today and I was with him 48 hrs ago in Srinagar. I tested negative for corona 4 times during travel in last 2 weeks. Yet taking precautions to ensure safety of me and others."
In a Facebook post, he said, "Since last one month I have tested -ve for Corona 4 times during my travels to different cities as per the quarantine regulations of respective states. The last time I tested -ve was on Friday before going to Srinagar. Yet taking precautions to ensure safety of me and others."
He also wished Raina a speedy recovery and good health.
"I have tested positive for COVID-19. I had gone to Bandipora area of north Kashmir to take part in the last rites of slain BJP leader, his father and brother. I was was there for the past five days", Raina told PTI on phone.
Raina is being referred to Narayana hospital situated in the Katra belt of Reasi district for treatment. He had undergone COVID-19 test on Monday which came positive.
At Bandipora, Raina had led the funeral procession along with party''s general secretary (Organisation) Ashok Kaul on July 11.
Raina said he along with other leaders had visited the area despite the threat given by terrorists not to take party in the funeral procession.
"I left for Bandipora soon after hearing the bad news. I was there for five days," Raina said.
Despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Bandipora, the BJP made it a point to be with the victim''s family, he said.
According to a senior government official, at least eight people, including members of Bari’s family who had come in contact with Raina, have been put under quarantine.
“Our focus first are the people who came in touch with Raina in rooms and then we will move on towards people who met him outside Bari’s residence. We will be observing all the contacts in the coming days. Fortunately, in Bandipora, due to social distancing norms, Raina might not have come into contact with a large number of people,” said the government official, who did not wish to be named.
Another government official said: “We have begun the process of contact-tracing. Everyone who attended the Tagore Hall meeting will be (contact-) traced and observed in the coming days.”
Local BJP leaders to also go into isolation Several local BJP leaders also said they would be going into self-quarantine.
J&K BJP spokesperson Altaf Thakur sent out a media message Tuesday evening. “Dear friends, I am going under quarantine from today (Tuesday) 6 pm onwards after coming in contact with party chief Shri Ravinder Raina at Bandipora. Please don’t visit my house for some time,” he said.
