Jammu without 4G even after 1-yr
8/5/2020 12:02:49 AM

Jammu has been without high speed internet for the past one year. The 4G internet services were snapped in J&K on August 5, 2019, when Centre announced its decision to revoke J&K’s special status and divided the erstwhile State into two Union Territories.
Though 2G mobile internet services were restored earlier this year but ban on 4G continues. The mobile internet services, according to the authorities, were snapped in Jammu due to security reasons. Even today same explanation is being given. Not a single incident of violence was reported in Jammu after the abrogation of Article 370 during the past one year. Despite everyone being aware about this fact 4G internet continues to remain suspended in Jammu region.
Local leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who used to claim that they are the true representatives of Jammu region have made it clear that they should not be blamed for 4G internet remaining suspended. One can understand that security situation in Kashmir is a major concern as the people sitting across the Line of Control have used internet as a tool to spread hate and indoctrinate the people. But there is no such apprehension in Jammu as the people of this region have always stood by the nationalist forces and have never supported cross border terrorism and terrorist activities. People of Jammu are being punished for what’s happening in Kashmir and it’s not fair. Jammu is paying a heavy price even after J&K’s reorganization. Jammu has lost statehood and the high speed internet due to Kashmir. People of Jammu were hoping that the good news will come by August 15 but it appears that no such proposal is in the offing. The Jammu based BJP leaders should realize the gravity of the situation rather than expressing their helplessness. They need to walk an extra mile to convince the Centre that Jammu is not Kashmir and J&K is not all about Kashmir. People of Jammu have given up hope on these leaders and are trying to highlight the restoration of 4G internet services at their own level. The smaller parties that have emerged on the scene due to BJP’s failure are striving hard at all the forums to get the high speed internet back in Jammu and if these parties succeed it will be a big jolt for local BJP leaders.
