Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 4: Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) failing to detach the lecturers, attached in its office for the past many years, has led to several peripheral Higher Secondary Schools facing shortage of lecturers. According to the details available with Early Times, even the administrative department had issued an order to detach all the teaching staff but the instructions were not followed.
Distressed over the failure of the School Education Department to fill the vacant posts of teaching staff in schools, Block Development Chairman Bhoond, Shanker Singh has written a letter to Union Minister Dr. Jatinder Singh, in which he has raised the issue of shortage of lecturers in Higher Secondary School Hutt and violation of transfer policy by the School Education Department.
Talking to this newspaper, Shanker Singh said that there were 11 sanctioned posts of lecturers in the upgraded Higher Secondary School Hutt. “After repeated appeals and running from pillar to post, five lecturers were posted in the School but instead of filling all the sanctioned posts, the department has recently transferred the lecturer of EVS, that too after only six months”, Singh said, adding that it was open violation of transfer policy by the DSEJ.
Singh further said that similar situation prevails in all other Higher Secondary and government schools in the far-flung areas. “Teaching staff refused to serve in these hilly areas and got themselves adjusted in cities due to which the students from peripheral schools would not be able to even get their syllabus covered”, Singh said, adding that he was compelled to write to the Union Minister, after he found that the officials of Education Department as well as Union Territory Administration didn’t take any cognizance of his repeated requests.
Early Times had earlier reported that the administrative wing of School Education Department had directed the DSEJ to detach over three dozen teaching staff members, who had been enjoying attachments for the last many years at Director’s office. According to sources, all the teaching staff members from the list forwarded by the administrative wing, have not been detached so far.
“The influential lecturers use various tactics to remain attached rather than working at their actual posting areas. Due to repeated violations of transfer policy, the peripheral colleges are facing shortage of teaching staff, while schools in urban areas have excess staff”, sources said, adding that the administration wing should break the monopoly of these influential teachers who are refusing to serve in rural and far flung areas.
Director School Education Jammu, Anuradha Gupta was not available for comments as her phone was switched off.
